About Project Samavesh
Hand for Handmade x Jagriti Enterprise Centre – Purvanchal
Project Samavesh is a focused initiative to empower artisans in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, revitalizing the crafts of Deoria, Kushinagar, and Gorakhpur. Beginning June 2024, this eight-month mission will provide design mentorship, market-driven product development, and skill enhancement, fostering innovation while preserving heritage.

The Vision
Project Samavesh is our on-ground initiative focused on strengthening artisan livelihoods in the heart of Eastern Uttar Pradesh. In partnership with the Handicrafts Centre of Excellence at JECP (Jagriti Enterprise Centre – Purvanchal), this project brings together design, training, and market access to catalyze lasting impact.
To elevate the crafts and communities of Deoria, Kushinagar, and Gorakhpur by providing design-led product development and market-readiness support to local artisans and emerging handicraft enterprises.
Craft Clusters in Focus
We transform artisan lives through education, community development, and regional empowerment, preserving traditional craftsmanship while creating sustainable pathways from rural workshops to global markets.

Moonj Craft
In Eastern UP, Moonj weaving transforms wild grass into beautiful, functional baskets and boxes. Practiced mainly by women, it’s a craft rooted in tradition and resilience. Through Project Samavesh, artisans are now exploring new forms and designs that connect heritage with modern living.

Terracotta
Terracotta is an age-old craft in Gorakhpur and Deoria, shaped by skilled potters who bring earth to life. Project Samavesh is helping them reimagine traditional techniques into planters, tiles, and decor, blending cultural depth with contemporary appeal.

Banana Fibre
Kushinagar’s banana fibre artisans are turning agricultural by-product into eco-friendly ropes, trays, and homeware. With training and design support, this cluster is emerging as a beacon of sustainable craft under Project Samavesh.
